  • TV VOD Ranking in 2016

NA Hong-jin’s THE WAILING produced the highest sales in domestic TV VOD market in 2016. The film topped TV VOD chart although it ranked eighth at the Korean box office in 2016. Korean Film Council’s periodical Korean Cinema said that "THE WAILING has gained attention for its open closure which leaves much room for various interpretations," and "The fever that audiences would like to watch the film more than one time to read its hidden messages seems to propel the film on to a success in the TV VOD market, too." Meanwhile, its sales of the year was USD 6.98 million.

Second best was TRAIN TO BUSAN, which topped the Korean box office in 2016 and accrued more than 10 million spectators. Its sales of TV VOD was USD 5.84 million. However, the film recorded 1.24 million views, more than THE WAILING’s 1.18 million views. It seems due to TRAIN TO BUSAN’s price reduction promotions including launching event of its prequel animated film, Seoul Station

Third place was taken by LUCK-KEY with USD 4.92 million sales, followed by A Violent Prosecutor (USD 4.8 million), Inside Men (USD 3.95 million), Zootopia (USD 3.93 million), Inside Men: The Original (USD 3.86 million), Tunnel (USD 3.85 million), The Handmaiden (USD 3.35 million) and Operation Chromite (USD 3.06 million).
