  • Launched in 2009, Jeonju Project Market is for Korean independent filmmakers, the place to come to introduce their new projects and get them off the ground and for industry delegates, to discover original, unique yet resonant stories to produce, invest in, or distribute. Jeonju Project Market aims to discover talents, facilitate independent film production in Korea, and support international promotion of Korean cinema especially the works we helped develop through Jeonju Project Promotion (JPP) and JPM Lab sessions by receiving scenarios from indie filmmakers through an open application each year, awarding grants of up to 10 million Korean won for new projects as well as works in progress, and bringing people on both the creative and business sides of the film industry together in one place during the film festival season.
Jeonju Project Market consists of three parts: Jeonju Project Promotion (JPP), where independent filmmakers can pitch in front of 800+ industry delegates to raise financing for their feature or documentary film projects; Industry Conference, where academic and industry practitioners discuss a wide range of topics relevant to the film industry in-depth; and Rising Cinema Showcase, which will be launched this year, where the directors are invited to pitch their films presented at the Jeonju International Film Festival’s Korea Cinemascape Section to representatives from distribution companies to secure distribution.
< An Omnivorous Family's Dilemma >, one of the documentary projects Jeonju Project Market has supported in 2011, was recently invited to the 65th Berlin International Film Festival’s Culinary Cinema Section and will get a theatrical release in early 2015. < Mrs. B, a North Korean Woman > presented at Jeonju Project Promotion in 2014 was introduced to international co-finance and production market at the IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam) Forum’s Central Pitch in 2014.
Jeonju Project Market takes place for 3 days during the Jeonju International Film Festival season in the host city of Jeonju.

    Jeonju Cinema Fund (JCF) Promotion

About 10 projects are selected and funded each year. In 2019, 4 fiction films and 3 documentary films projects were funded by this grant. The total sum of the fund is 60 million KRW.

Selected projects are awarded 5 million KRW for the first, four-month phase of development. The fund is to help with planning and developing the projects. Each of the selected projects will be introduced to industry professional at JCF Promotion, which will be held on May 5th. At the promotion, projects will go through another round of review, and selected projects will be awarded monetary prize as well as in-kind support for the second phrase of development. Details about production, investment, and the distribution of the films can be discussed at the business meeting, which will take place after the JCF Promotion meeting.

1 project will be selected as the prestigious JCP. Selected project will be awarded monetary investment of no more than 100 million KRW. Results from this selection will be announced at the award ceremony, which will take place on May 7th. Details of the in-kind support will be disclosed at the ceremony.

To meet the requirements for application, the film (fiction or documentary) must be at least 60 minutes long and the director or the producer must have directed or produced at least one feature project.

In December 2018, the call for submission was announced online at the website of Jeonju International Film Festival. Submitted documents were reviewed and 5 projects — 3 fiction and 2 documentary films — were selected.

Selected projects are invited for pitching at JCP: NEXT EDITION. At the pitching event, one project will be selected as the prestigious JCP. Selected project will be awarded an investment of approximately 100 million KRW for production. Completed film will be screened as a world premiere at Jeonju IFF.
