Explosive Increase of the Audience by 335%, Compared to the Last Week

In the first week of May, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness dominated the box office as expected. The film heralded a box office hit with more than 1 million advance tickets before its release on May 4. In its first week of release, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness recorded 1,717,553 viewers with sales of 14.5 million USD, making it the landslide winner at the box office hits. Within five days of its release, it drew 3,497,724 audiences with sales of USD 29.1 million in total, setting the record for the top box office hit in 2022 so far.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is Doctor Strange’s second solo film, released in six years, and is a superhero film that can be classified as the first horror-thriller genre in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The first solo drew about 5,446,000 Korean viewers to the theaters, and the sequel is expected to easily surpass the first episode.

However, it is worrisome that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has accounted for 87% of the weekend sales. DreamWorks' animation, The Bad Guys, released on May 4 and ranked 2nd place at the weekend box office, has about 110,000 audiences, while the Japanese animation Butt Detective the Movie: The Secret of Souffle Island in 3rd has about 50,000 viewers. Meanwhile, I want to know your parents, the Korean movie released on April 27, ranked 4th with around 42,000 audiences over the weekend.

Since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness attracted a lot of moviegoers, the total number of the audience nearly quadrupled in a week. From May 2nd (Mon) to 8th (Sun), the total number of the audience was 4,210,715, showing a 335% increase from the 968,938 viewers in total last week.
