DEMON SLAYER Continues Strong Run

Major new releases remained scarce but strong holdovers continue to power the box office, which dipped just 5% over the weekend, to 403,000 admissions. With no major new local films since MISSION: POSSIBLE’s debut a month ago, the local market share was kept down to 6%.

The Korean-American indie hit Minari claimed its third weekend win with 132,000 sales (USD 1.1 million) after a slight 1% rise. The award-winning film has to date banked 703,000 entries (USD 5.65 million) in the market.

Also up 1% as it hung on to second place during its eighth weekend on the charts was the Japanese animation Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train. The film added 94,000 sales (USD 806,000) to push its total to 1.35 million admissions (USD 11.53 million) to date.

Down 36% over its third weekend was the Disney animation Raya and the Last Dragon, which filled another 44,000 seats (USD 359,000) and has attracted 277,000 spectators (USD 2.28 million) to date.

The highest new entry on the charts was the US drama The Mauritanian, welcoming 22,000 viewers (USD 177,000) over the weekend, with 39,000 entries (USD 255,000) banked over its first five days in theaters.

Rounding out the top five was the Pixar hit Soul, which slowed 30% as it sold another 16,000 tickets (USD 135,000). Over two months, the film has been seen by 2.02 million viewers (USD 16.65 million).

Aiming to top the charts this coming weekend will be the Hollywood tentpole Godzilla vs. Kong, while both Minari and Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train will look to add to their numbers.
