The Period Film Will Co-Star PARK Hae-il

HUR Jin-ho’s long in-development The Last Princess will finally begin production next month with SON Ye-jin in the title role and PARK Hae-il signed on to co-star. HUR and SON previously collaborated ten years ago on April Snow.

Based on KWON Bi-young’s novel ‘Princess Deokhye’, the film will recount the true tale of Korea’s last princess who was taken to Japan as a hostage during the Colonial Era. PARK will play an independence fighter whose mission is to return the princess to her homeland.

Originally selected as a project for Korean Film Council (KOFIC)’s Co-Production Development Support at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in 2012, The Last Princess entered pre-production last year.

Known for his classic melodramas such as Christmas in August (1998) and One Fine Spring Day (2001), HUR currently serves as director of the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival, which held its 11th edition earlier this month.

Popular actress SON will first be seen in the China-Korea co-production Bad Guys Always Die, which will premiere at BIFF in October, and LEE Kyoung-mi’s kidnap thriller Home Sweet Home. PARK most recently starred in The Whistleblower, My Dictator and Gyeong-ju last year, and features in ZHANG Lu’s upcoming Love and…, also screening at BIFF this year.
