King and the Clown has become the most popular film in South Korea. On Sunday March 5, 2006 it surpassed Taegukgi to claim the top spot. According to the distributor Cinema Service King and the Clown reached 11,750,000 admissions at 5 PM Sunday, meaning that one out of every four Korean people had a chance to watch the film. It took the film 67 days to reach that landmark. The next landmark is in the making as the film is expected to reach 12 million admissions in a few days. King and the Clown's production budget is 4.3 billion won, a relatively lower figure, especially compared to films as Taegukgi and Silmido. It is announced that its DVD title will have a special international edition. This edition will contain a longer introduction with more information about the period, the king and the context for viewers unfamiliar with the Korean history. The international title will probably be The Royal Jester. Yi Ch'ang-ho (KOFIC)
