Director JEONG Yun-cheol's hit film Marathon is enjoying a successful run in theaters in Japan. The film was released on July 2 by major distributor Shochiku in partnership with Cine Qua Non. It screened on 120 prints, a comparatively small number especially next to the film's competitors like War of the Worlds and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, but it still managed to land at #5 in its opening weekend. In its second weekend, the film dropped two places to#7. With audience reactions to the film strong after a long run of preview screenings, the film is expected to do well both for the remainder of its theatrical run and later on DVD. Marathon sold over 5 million tickets upon its release in Korea in January, and earned upwards of $30 million at the box office.
