‘The Most Touching Film of the Year’ Chosen by the Festival Audiences

At the VIFFF (Vevey International Funny Film Festival), held in Vevey in Switzerland from October 27 to 30, Life is Beautiful won the Audience Award. Life is Beautiful not only is the first Korean movie to have ever been invited to the Vevey International Funny Film Festival but also at the same time was awarded the ‘Audience Award,’ adding up more meaning.

According to the distributor Lotte Entertainment on November 4, for the Audience Award, which is selected by voting cast by 100 audiences, Life is Beautiful received 4.46 out of 5, scoring the highest out of the other competing films.

Loïs de Goumoën, a programmer of VIFFF, said, “The audience was deeply moved by this beautiful movie, which encompasses comedy, musical, and drama. Thank you for allowing us to introduce such a beautiful movie."

The audience also expressed their feelings by saying, "It was very surprising that the film applied a serious and sad theme into a musical with great humor.” “The scenes showing the fall in Korea were very pretty and the story was touching, and Korean pop music was good enough to listen to it endlessly even after the movie ended.” “Among the films released this year, this movie made me cry the most. Even though it is a sad movie, it gives off joy in life," etc.

Life is Beautiful is about a terminally ill patient Seyeon (Yum Jungah), who embarks on an adventure with her husband Jinbong (Ryu Seungryong), to find her first love for her birthday party. The film is the first jukebox musical film in Korea that sings our lives with joyful rhythms and melodies.
