Model-Turned-Actress Now Commands 23.7 Million Followers

Squid Game star Jung Hoyeon has signed with CAA, one of Hollywood’s top talent agencies.

A fashion model who debuted at the age of 16, Jung made her screen debut in memorable fashion in Netflix’s hit Squid Game, released this past September. She played Kang Saebyeok (or player #67) in the series, a North Korean defector and pickpocket who enters the ‘squid game’ in the hopes of earning the means to support her brother.

Jung’s character instantly became a fan favorite, and as the show exploded, so did her popularity. The model-turned-actress’ Instagram account quickly swelled to 23.7 million followers, making her one of the most visible Korean entertainment figures on the social media platform.

Directed by Hwang Donghyuk and also featuring Lee Jungjae and Park Haesoo, Squid Game caused a sensation earlier this year when it rocketed to the top of the Netflix ranks and stayed there as Squid Game fever gripped the world. Netflix recently reported that the show was viewed by 142 million subscribers, making it by far the most successful launch for any Netflix property.

A representative from Saram Entertainment, the Korean management company that continues to represent her, explained that they were teaming with CAA in a big to explore Jung’s global opportunities.

Jung hasn’t officially signed on to any other project to date but has been busy courting brands for sponsorship deals, including Louis Vuitton, and appearing on the covers of fashion magazines like Vogue.
