Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2013)

Miracle in Cell No. 7, the family comedy smash that welcomed close to 13 million viewers to theaters in 2013, is set to be remade in Spain. The project is the result of a deal between Contents Panda, the sales agent behind the original, and the Spanish production company Rock and Ruz.

The film, which is partly based on real events, was previously remade in India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Turkey. Rock and Ruz is a new company set up by Miguel RUZ, one of the producers of the series Black Mirror, and Jordi ROCA. Local reports suggest that Mario CASAS, the award-winning actor who appeared in The Invisible Guest, will star in the remake.

Released during the Lunar New Year holiday in early 2013, Miracle in Cell No. 7 stars RYU Seung-ryong as a father with a mental handicap who is wrongly convicted of murder and sent to jail. At first he finds it difficult to acclimate to his new surroundings, but after helping one of his cellmates, he is granted a special wish. The cellmates work together to smuggle his daughter into jail. The original was directed by LEE Hwang-kyung and co-starred PARK Shin-hye, GAL So-won and OH Dal-su

Contents Panda is also involved with an American TV remake of JUNG Byung-gil’s The Villainess (2017) which is destined for Amazon Prime with Director JUNG on board to helm the pilot.
