Myanmar’s director Zin Yaw Maung Maung Visits Korea for Location Scouting

Director Zin Yaw Maung Maung from Myanmar visited Korea on January 26 to scout locations for his upcoming film Winter’s Tale, a co-production between Korea and Myanmar. During the five days he spent in Korea, the director toured various locations in Seoul and Busan, and even the Cheong Maesil plum farm in Gwangyang, South-Jeolla Province, before returning to Myanmar on January 31. The first co-production between Korea and Myanmar, Zin Yaw Maung Maung’s film Winter’s Tale is getting a lot of attention in South East Asia as Zin Yaw Maung Maung, known in his country as “the people’s director”, returns behind the camera to tell an international love story between a Korean man and a Burmese woman. Production is scheduled to start around the end of April, this visit having been set up for the director to confirm the locations. Busan was his first destination. “Busan, with its film festival, holds a special significance for filmmakers”, explained Zin Yaw Maung Maung, who has visited five times the coastal city, in an interview with a media outlet. “I will show in this film the sea of Busan, its night view and its sophisticated city”. Winter’s Tale will star several star actors from Myanmar, and auditions will be held for the Korean lead.
