CHOI Soo-young, a member of the world-renowned Kpop group Girls’ Generation, has signed on to play her first leading role in the upcoming Korean-Japanese co-production Memories of a Dead End.

Based on the novel of the same name by YOSHIMOTO Banana, the film follows a female character who faces a life-changing predicament when she moves to a brand new town and attempts to restart her life after losing the person she thought she was destined to love. Production is scheduled to begin in Japan in April.

The film will mark the feature debut of filmmaker CHOI Hyun-young, who previously made the short film The After… in 2009, which screened at both the SEOUL International Women’s Film Festival and the Seoul International Youth Film Festival.

CHOI Soo-young made her debut as a member of Girls’ Generation in 2007 and left the group and its agency SM Entertainment in 2017. She is now represented by Echo Global Group.

Prior to Memories of a Dead End, CHOI had a supporting role in the film Hello Schoolgirl in 2008. She has also appeared in a pair of concert documentary films, I AM. (2012) and SMTown: The Stage (2015). Recently, CHOI featured in the MBC drama Man Who Sets the Table (2017).
