The 1st Korea-China International Film Awards Kicks Off

The Korea-China International Film Awards will hold its first edition this September. An official announced that the event would take place at the Hanyang University Gymnasium for two days from September 15th to 16th, during a press conference that was held on June 20th.

The opening ceremony and K-Pop festival will take place on the first day while short film screenings and the awards presentation will be held on the second day. The festival was originally scheduled to be held in Songdo, Incheon last May, but was postponed due to the THAAD issue. 

The office issued its call for submissions on June 15th. Any fictional or documentary films, completed in Korea or abroad, that has received grades from the Korea Media Rating Board, can be submitted until July 20th this year. The finalists will receive the Arirang Silkroad Award, which is named after Korea’s traditional and cultural heritage ‘Arirang’ and the Chinese ‘Silk Road’. In addition, there will be a special event to discover talented painters in Korea; painters will draw pictures on the costumes of actors and actresses with the pieces later to be auctioned on the Chinese Alibaba website. Proceeds will be donated to disadvantaged people and short film productions. 

The 1st Korea-China International Film Awards aims to be a festival where ‘Politicians, Businessmen and Artists can participate together’. It is organized by its own committee in conjunction with the Global Journalist Federation (GJF) and is co-sponsored by various institutions and organizations from both Korea and China. JANG Seong-cheol, CEO of online newspaper Daily Economy is the chairman while actress KIM Bo-yeon is the executive chairwoman of the festival.
