3rd Pairing for Stars in JANG Joon-hwan’s Thriller 1987

Stars KIM Yun-seok and HA Jung-woo set to embark on their third project together after both have committed to JANG Joon-hwan’s new film 1987. The project sees the pair reunite after headlining NA Hong-jin’s The Chaser (2008) and The Yellow Sea (2010).

The thriller will deal with the political crisis that led to the June Democratic Uprising in 1987 which ended the military regime of President CHUN Doo-hwan. The struggle kicked off when a group revealed the cause of PARK Jong-chul’s death, a student activist, to be waterboarding techniques used during interrogation sessions.

Director JANG is known for his 2003 cult classic Save the Green Planet, which he eventually followed up with Hwayi: A Monster Boy (2013), featuring KIM Yun-seok in the lead role. Serving as screenwriter is Cart (2014) scribe KIM Kyung-chan.

KIM, currently gracing screens in the time travel fantasy romance Will You Be There?, is shooting period thriller Namhansanseong Fortress with LEE Byung-hun and PARK Hae-il. Seen this year in PARK Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden and KIM Seong-hun’s Tunnel, HA will next be on screens in fantasy epic With God. Also reported to have a small role is star GANG Dong-won, who has collaborated with KIM before in last year’s exorcism thriller The Priests and with HA on the period action KUNDO : Age of the Rampant (2014).

CJ Entertainment is on board to finance and distribute the film which will go into production in the first half of next year.
