Hawaii Springs for 8 Korean Films

HIFF Spring Showcase Boasts Wide Palate
Every year, in between its normal annual editions, the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) stages a Spring Showcase. Going into its 15th year, the HIFF Spring Showcase has invited eight Korean films out of a total 37 selections.
PANG Eun-jin’s third film Way Back Home, which has earned notices for a strong leading performance from JEON Do-yeon, will have its international premiere at the event following its domestic theatrical release last December.
Having their North American premieres will be the controversial drama Another Family and the airplane comedy Fasten Your Seatbelt, which is actor HA Jung-woo’s debut as a director.
Also screening will be the enormously popular courtroom drama The Attorney starring SONG Kang-ho, which topped ten million admissions earlier this year, the surprise hit horror-thriller Hide and Seek, the omnibus romance Marriage Blue, the immigration themed indie drama Thuy, which debuted at the Busan International Film Festival and Gina KIM’s international culinary drama Final Recipe.
Among the selections, Final Recipe is the only film that already screened at the main Hawaii International Film Festival last year. Korean cinema was also strongly represented during last year’s Spring Showcase, as seven films from the peninsula were screened. This year’s 15th Showcase will run from April 4th to 10th.
