Invited to Shorts Competition and Cinefondation Selection

The Cannes Film Festival has yet to reveal its full lineup for its upcoming 66th edition but last night it released the participants of the Shorts Competition and Cinefondation Selection. Two Korean shorts were invited out of a total of 27 works.

Safe, a 13 minute work from director MOON Byung-Gon, was selected for the Short Film Competition, where it will vie for the Short Film Palme d’Or, to be handed out by jury president Jane CAMPION (director of 1993’s The Piano), against eight other works. MOON previously attended the Cannes Film Festival in 2011 with his short Finis Operis in the International Critics' Weeks Shorts section.

The Cinefondation Selection, which highlights the works of filmmakers currently enrolled in film schools, has invited 18 shorts, including The Line (Seon), from director KIM Soo-jin. KIM will represent Chung-Ang University with her 27 minute entry.

We’ll know more about what features will participate in the Cannes Film Festival late on Thursday, when the lineup is fully revealed. This year’s edition takes place from May 15th to 26th.
