Finecut sells Leafie to Italy, launches new films at AFM

Major South Korean sales company Finecut has sold hit animation <Leafie> to Mediterranea Productions for Italian-speaking territories at the Rome Film Festival’s Business Street market. Mediterranea Productions plans to release the film in Italy on 50 screens with Italian dubbing.

South Korea’s highest-grossing theatrical animation, <Leafie> took in over 2.2 million admissions on release this summer in Korea. The film previously sold to Ex-USSR excluding Baltic States (CP Digital), Portugal (Lanterna De Pedra Filmes), Turkey (Horizon), Middle East (TDH), and Indonesia (Pratama). Finecut expects more sales to France and Germany during the American Film Market (AFM) which started yesterday.

In addition, Finecut has sold <Athena: The Movie> - which will also screen at AFM - to France (Opening), Hong Kong (Sundream), Malaysia & Brunei (Hwa Yea) and Indonesia (DCU). The film had already sold to Turkey, Iran, Thailand, Czech Republic, Taiwan, Slovakia, and Poland, too.

At AFM, the company will be introducing for the first time <Love Fiction> and <The Grand Heist> (tentative title). <Love Fiction> stars HA Jung-woo as a novelist who writes fiction based on his attractive girlfriend played by KONG Hyo-jin, but ends up uncovering secrets from her mysterious past. <The Grand Heist> is an action adventure that takes place two and a half centuries ago when ice was a valuable commodity in Korea and a group of ambitious young people fight against a loyal government official to gain control over it.

Both <Love Fiction> and <The Grand Heist> are presented by up-and-coming investor/distributor N.E.W. and are due for completion in spring 2012.

Also at AFM, Finecut is holding market screenings of the hit thrillers <Blind> and <The Cat> as well as <Leafie> and <Athena>.
