Expecting K-MOVIE Craze in Philippine Movie Market

The Roundup, the first movie to surpass 10 million viewers in Korea since the Pandemic, was released in the Philippines on June 22. The film was pre-sold to 132 countries and released overseas, such as Taiwan, Mongolia, the United States, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Canada, Hong Kong, etc. The Roundup is also scheduled to be released in Malaysia on July 21, following the Philippines.

Many people from various circles, including the Korean Embassy in the Philippines and local film industry officials, attended the local VIP preview, which took place before the release. Also, a number of media, including ABS-CBN and GMA, the Philippine public broadcasting stations, visited the event and covered the news of the local release of The Roundup. 

LAON, in charge of the film distribution in the Philippines, plans to accelerate the expansion of cultural exchanges between Korea and the Philippines, led by The Roundup. CEO Cho Heungkyu of LAON said, "We plan to sign an exclusive contract with Glimmer, a local content investment and distribution company, to promote Korean content supply and joint production of Korea-Philippines. We will do our best to serve as a bridgehead for K-content to enter the Philippines market." 

The Roundup depicts a cheerful crime eradication operation conducted by a monstrous detective Ma Seokdo (Don Lee) and his team in the Geumcheon police crime unit to catch Kang Haesang (Son Sukku), the strongest villain who dominates Vietnam. It is the first commercial film directed by Lee Sangyong, a former assistant director of The Outlaws. As of June 24, The Roundup is on the verge of surpassing 12 million viewers in Korea.
