Heo Moonyoung, Chairperson of the BIFF Executive Committee, Appointed to a Jury for Cannes Critics’ Week.
Critics’ Week is Held from May 18 to 26
Heo Moonyoung, the chairperson of the BIFF Executive Committee, the best film festival in Asia, has been appointed as a jury for Cannes Critics’ Week.
Marking its 61st anniversary this year, Cannes Critics’ Week is a side section of the Cannes International Film Festival, which introduces the first and second films of new directors featuring artistry and experimental attempts, and hosted by the French Union of Film Critics.
After working as a movie journalist and film critic, Chairperson Heo Moonyoung has been a Korean film programmer at the Busan International Film Festival since 2002. He also has been in charge of programming and operating Cinematheque Busan and Busan Cinema Center since 2005. He has been the chairperson of the BIFF Executive Committee since 2021.
Along with Chairperson Heo Moonyoung, Greek Actor Ariane Labed, Icelandic Director Benedikt Erlingsson, and Belgian Cinematographer Benoît Debie have been appointed to the juries of the Critics’ Week this year. The chairperson of the jury is Tunisian Director Ben Hania, who directed the famous film, The Man who Sold his Skin. In Korea, Director Lee Changdong served as the chairperson of the same section in 2011.
The Cannes International Film Festival Critics' Week selects and introduces about 7 feature films and 12 short films every year. This year, the juries will select 4 winners, including the Critics’ Week Grand Prize. In particular, Next Sohee (2022), starring Bae Doona and directed by Jung July, has been invited to be the closing film at the Cannes International Film Festival Critics’ Week this year.
The 61st Cannes Critics’ Week will be held from May 18 to 26, the day after the opening of the Cannes International Film Festival.
