YG, Naver, Nexon & Wysiwyg Join Forces for Large-Scale Production Complex
I-DMC Will Comprise 5 Sound Stages and Open in 2025
Five Korean companies spanning the tech, gaming and entertainment sectors have banded together to build a large production studio and complex in Gyeonggi Province. The backers of the project include YN Culture&Space (YN C&S), an affiliate of YG Entertainment, portal site giant Naver, gaming company Nexon, VFX and production company Wysiwyg Studios and their subsidiary NP.
The Immersive Digital Media Center (I-DMC), which is set to break ground this summer, is scheduled to open its doors in 2025.
Located within Uijeongbu Rhythm City, the complex will span 49,600 square meters of floor space, across which will be built five sound stages which will be used for an array of content production, with a focus on online video content, as well as games, music, music videos, performances, e-sports and original content for films and dramas.
I-DMC will also feature VFX production capabilities and include research and development facilities through which the joint venture will seek to maximize and exploit their shared IP and ensure their long-term market competitiveness.
YN Culture&Space is a construction and real estate company founded by K-pop giant YG Entertainment, which is expected to use the space to stream online concerts. Wysiwyg Studios is a VFX company that has been involved in global productions, including major Korean films and dramas and Hollywood tentpoles such as Aquaman. Nexon is one of Korea’s largest gaming companies and recently invested in the Hollywood production company AGBO.
Nexon’s investment in the project is reported to be KRW 15 billion (USD 12.44 million), while Wysiwyg added a KRW 10 billion (USD 8.3 million) investment on top of their original KRW 10 billion stake after Nexon joined the venture.
