KIM Bora’s Acclaimed Debut to Be Released in the US Later This Year
Distributor Well Go USA has picked up the North American rights to the acclaimed indie House of Hummingbird (2018) from first time director KIM Bora. The film debuted at the Busan International Film Festival last year and has been picking up awards at the Berlin International Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival, among others, ever since.
PARK Ji-hu stars as a young adolescent girl living with her dysfunctional family in Seoul circa 1994. As she tries to navigate her family life and deal with her burgeoning romantic feelings, she becomes impressed with her new after school teacher, played by KIM Sae-byuk, who challenges her to look at the world around her and look within herself to find her true desires.
Well Go will release the film in America later this year, where it has already screened at several festivals. The film won the Best International Narrative Feature, Actress and Cinematography Awards in Tribeca, the Grand Jury Award for Outstanding International Narrative Feature at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and is currently screening at the Seattle International Film Festival.
Following NETPAC Award and the KNN Audience Award wins during its debut in Busan, House of Hummingbird took the Generation 14plus Grand Prix for the Best Feature in Berlin and the Golden Tulip for Best Film at the Istanbul International Film Festival.
