Ghorban MOHAMMADPOUR Seeks to Cast Hallyu Idol

Currently on set for her first feature film role since leading PARK Chan-wook’s Sympathy For Lady Vengeance in 2005, Hallyu star LEE Young-ae may continue her big screen return following reports that she has met with the Iranian filmmaker Ghorban MOHAMMADPOUR for a starring role in his next feature film.

LEE is known to film fans for her roles in PARK Chan-wook’s Joint Security Area /JSA (2000), HUR Jin-ho’s One Fine Spring Day (2001) and OH KI-hwan’s Last Present (2001) as well as her iconic titular role in Sympathy For Lady Vengeance. She is also a global star due to her roles in TV dramas, particularly the sensationally popular Jewel in the Place series in 2004.

Last year, LEE appeared in LEE Kyoung-mi’s new short film The Lady from 406 and she is currently filming KIM Seung-woo’s drama Find Me (translated title).

Director MOHAMMADPOUR, who visited Korea to meet LEE after contacting her with the help from the Iranian embassy in Seoul, recently helmed the Iranian-Indian box office hit Salaam Mumbai, which unseated Asghar FARHADI’s The Past to post the best opening ever at the Iranian box office in 2016.

If LEE were to take the role it would be her first performance in a foreign language film since making her acting debut in the early 1990s.
