Neuchâtel IFFF Invites Trio of Works from Korea

Genre VR, Shorts and Feature to Screen in Switzerland

This year’s 18th Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF) has invited a trio of works from Korea spanning an array of different mediums. JUNG Bum-shik’s horror hit GONJIAM: Haunted Asylum, LEE Kyoung-mi’s short film The Lady from 406 (2017) and the Dexter Studios-produced VR short Help Me are all set to screen at the Swiss festival which kicks off on July 6.

Director JUNG’s third work, and his second horror following 2007’s Epitaph, GONJIAM: Haunted Asylum is a found footage chiller that became a surprise hit earlier this year, winding up with the second highest ever admissions haul for a local horror film in the Korean market. The film also screened at the Udine Far East Film Festival this spring.

Following her critically acclaimed second feature The Truth Beneath (2016), director LEE Kyoung-mi is back on the festival circuit with her latest, the short film The Lady from 406 with lead actress LEE Young-ae, known around the world for her titular role in PARK Chan-wook’s Sympathy For Lady Vengeance (2005). The short film, which was commissioned by the Korean cable network JTBC, will have its international premiere in Switzerland ahead of its Korean festival premiere at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in mid-July.

Blockbuster VFX and production company Dexter Studios, known for their recent fantasy epic hit Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017), the second most successful Korean film of all time, will present their animated VR short Help Me in Switzerland. The short will be available for viewing daily in NIFFF’s ‘Espace VR: The Virtual Psycho Pagoda’.
