Body Swap Thriller Features Tales with Twist, Turns and Desires
Webtoon artist Zephygaru’s popular webcomic series ‘Body for Rent’ will be hitting the big screen. Comic book publisher Jaedam Media recently announced that they had signed a contract with AD406, the film production company behind thriller
The Chase (2017), which was based on another well-known webtoon by Zephygaru titled ‘Aridong’s Last Cowboy’.
In the world of ‘Body for Rent’, Dharma, a body broker, offers a service allowing people to temporarily inhabit the bodies of others to satisfy their primitive desires. The series deals with a wide range of subjects, from human desires to ideas of weakness and inferiority, and episodes became popular for featuring unexpected twists. ‘Body for Rent’ is currently running in serial format in four countries: Korea, the United States, China and Japan. This January, Kakao Japan (Piccoma), one of the major webtoon platforms in Japan, selected the thriller webcomic as one of its most noteworthy.
Zephygaru made his debut in 2004 with the academic comic book ‘Byeoljubujeon’ and later went on to produce webcomics such as ‘Body for Rent’ and ‘Aridong’s Last Cowboy’. He also illustrated writer
YANG Woo-suk’s ‘Steel Rain’, which was recently adapted into a movie of the same name and starred
JUNG Woo-sung.
