Will Include Background Story of SPIRITS’ HOMECOMING and Testimonies of Survivors
A sequel to Spirits’ Homecoming titled Spirits’ Homecoming, Unfinished Story will be released. The original film was based on the true story of comfort women.
The upcoming film includes background story on CHO Jung-rae’s low-budget colonial drama Spirits’ Homecoming (2016) which used testimony videos of comfort women survivors provided from The House of Sharing, an organization which supports and houses former comfort women. The original film managed to lure an audience of 3.58 million viewers.
“Spirits’ Homecoming, Unfinished Story is our ‘promise’ while Spirits’ Homecoming was a ‘record’ and ‘consolation’ for victims.” production company JO Entertainment said. The company has lead the way in reporting the comfort women issue, screening the film about 1300 times in 61 cities in 10 countries and holding more than 100 seminars and free screenings in Korea so far. In explaining why the second story will be released, JO Entertainment stated “Even a year after the release of the original film, any real agreement about comfort women has not been reached on the issue.” Director CHO added “The upcoming sequel is a small step for true resolution for sexual slavery problems. I hope we come together to eliminate war crimes in this land.”
Spirits’ Homecoming, Unfinished Story is scheduled to be released by Connect Pictures on September 14th, 2017.
