Redrover Returns with Animated Sequel

Korean production company Redrover is back on the US box office charts with their just-released The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, which opened in North America on August 11th. The animated sequel kicked off its theatrical run with USD 8.94 million in third place.

Opening on 4,000 screens, the film began its run below the debut of hit horror Annabelle: Creation and just behind the fourth week of Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk. The original The Nut Job also opened in third place in 2014, though it had a more impressive showing with USD 19.42 million on its way to a robust USD 64.25 million total in the North America, and just shy of USD 121 million worldwide.

Redrover recently announced that in addition to its theatrical performance in America, the film has been pre-sold to 170 countries with minimum guarantee contracts exceeding USD 8.5 million and expected to pass USD 10 million. The Nut Job 2 will open in Russia, Mexico and the UK this month, as well as in other territories in Europe, South America and the Middle East. The film will bow in South Korea on October 3rd. The animated feature was made with the support of the Korea Creative Content Agency, which is part of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The film’s voice cast features stars Will Arnett, Katherine Heigl, Maya Rudolph and Jackie Chan. North American promotional partners include well-known brands such as Hardee’s, Carls Jr. and Frontier Airlines.
