About Challenges of Teenagers of the Korean Traditional Culture Club
The Summer in Ibaraki (directed by
Jeon Sung-ho, 2015), documentary film produced by Busan
MBC was released in Tokyo on April 14th. After it was invited to the Osaka Asian Film Festival in March 2016, it was released in Osaka on November 5th of the same year. Since then, it has been released in Kyoto, Kobe, Nagoya and Tokyo. It is regarded to be unusual that such a documentary was released in major cities of Japan and Korean documentary has gained good responses.
The Summer in Ibaraki tells the story of Korean traditional culture club at Kunkuk high school located in Osaka, Japan. They have represented Osaka in Japan Students Cultural Art Festival for ten years. In 2014, nine members of the club won third place for Jisinbalgi, a Korean traditional performance. Meanwhile, the documentary’s Japanese title is Dengei, a quickname of their club.
