YOON Ga-eun’s Debut Adds NY Children’s Fest to Calendar
YOON Ga-eun’s debut feature The World of Us continues its impressive international festival run with an invitation to the New York International Children’s Film Festival, which kicked off on February 24th and will run until March 19th. The festival is presenting 100 films from over 30 countries. The World of Us is screening twice in New York, first on March 4th and then on the 12th.
The film follows a trio of young girls who become close and grow apart during one summer as they learn to navigate more complex relationships.
Following its world premiere at last year’s Berlin International Film Festival, The World of Us has been on a long festival run, which has included award wins at the ZLIN Film Festival and the International Young Audience Film Festival Ale Kino. The film was also a success in Korea, with almost 50,000 tickets sold in limited release and a number of awards for Best New Director, including form the Blue Dragon Awards.
Director YOON is no stranger to festival success, having already made a number of well received short films. Most prominent among those was Sprout (2013), which earned the Sonje Award when it debuted at the Busan International Film Festival and went on to win the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film in the Generation section of the Berlin International Film Festival.
