DEER FLOWER Scores Annie Awards Nomination

Acclaimed Korean Short Up for Best Animated Short Subject
 

The Korean animated short film Deer Flower by KIM Kang-min has been nominated for the Best Animated Short Subject Prize at the upcoming 44th edition of the Annual Annie Awards. Presented by the Los Angeles branch of the International Animated Film Association, ASIFA-Hollywood, the Annies will take place on February 4th.

KIM’s stop-motion animation has already picked up several prizes, including the Grand Prix for Best Picture from the Busan International Short Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize from the Jeonju International Film Festival, and a Special Award from the Animafest-World Festival of Animated Film-Zagreb.

Other Korean nominees at this year’s Annies include Jin KIM, a Korean animator at Walt Disney Animation who is up for Outstanding Achievement, Character Design in an Animated Feature Production for his work on Moana, as well as Erick OH, who has been nominated in the Outstanding Achievement, Character Animation in a Feature Production category for Pixar Studios’ Finding Dory

BYUN Dong-ju, an effects animator on Disney’s Zootopia, is among the field for the Outstanding Achievement, Animated Effects in an Animated Production category, digital artist YOON Ji-hyun of Doctor Strange is up for Outstanding Achievement, Animated Effects in a Live Action Production, and storyboard artist SONG Hyun-joo is in the running for Outstanding Achievement, Storyboarding in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production for Dreamworks’ series Trollhunters.
