Medical Dramedy CADO CADO Screens at TIFF
Following its entries into China, Vietnam and Thailand,
CJ Entertainment released its first production for the Indonesian market on October 27th.
CADO CADO: Doctor 101, a medical comedy drama, is the first fully co-produced project between South Korea and Indonesia.
The film had its international bow last month as part of the ‘CROSSCUT ASIA #03 COLORFUL INDONESIA’ program of the recent 2016 Tokyo International Film Festival. The film has also screened at several events in Indonesia ahead of its premiere.
Directed by Ifa Isfansya, the film follows a medical intern who enters a medical program to follow a girl, but their relationship becomes complicated when he develops feelings for the daughter of the hospital’s owner.
CJ E&M initially entered Indonesia as an investor in their exhibition sector when they acquired a stake in local theater chain Blitz. With a 40% ownership by CJ the chain is now known as
CGV-Blitz, taking on the acronym of CJ’s exhibition wing, the largest theater in Korea and Vietnam and the fifth largest in the world. CJ’s role in the Indonesian market has grown since earlier this year, when rules concerning foreign investment in Indonesia’s cultural market were relaxed.
CJ also participated as a partner on Joko Anwar’s
A Copy of My Mind last year, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last year before doing the festival rounds.
