Göteborg Makes Room for ASSASSINATION, SNOW PATHS

Korean Films on Show in Sweden

For its 39th edition, the Göteborg International Film Festival, which kicks off next Friday (January 29th) in Sweden, will feature a pair of Korean films, one from the commercial end of the business, CHOI Dong-hoon’s Assassination, and the other from the indie sector, KIM Hee-jung’s Snow Paths.

The fifth title from hit maker CHOI, Assassination is a big-budget period action film that follows Korean resistance fighters plotting to assassinate leading figures in the Japanese Occupation of their country. Starring Gianna JUN, LEE Jung-jae and HA Jung-woo, the film was a huge hit last year, accruing 12.71 million spectators (USD 81.11 million). CHOI previously made the smash hit The Thieves (2012).

One of the three feature length Jeonju Cinema Projects last year, along with Night Song and El Movimiento, Snow Paths is the third film by director KIM and follows her previous indie title Grape Candy (2012). The film features KIM Tae-hun as an alcoholic seeking treatment at a convent deep in the mountains during wintertime. There he develops a strange bound with a young nun (played by new star PARK So-dam), and daughter of shaman, who is hiding her own demons.

The Göteborg International Film Festival will run until February 8th. The festival will screen 450 titles from 84 countries this year and open with Måns Månsson’s The Yard.
