SET ME FREE, THE ROAD CALLED LIFE to Compete at APSA
KIM Dong-ho, the co-founder and former chairman of the
Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), has been tapped to head the jury at this year’s Asia Pacific Screen Awards. He will be joined by fellow jurors Mostofa Sarwar FARROKI, the director of Television, Chinese academic ZHANG Xianmin, filmmaker U-Wei Bin HAJI SAARI of Malaysia, Russian writer-director Alexei Popogrebsky and Iranian actress Negar JAVEHERIAN.
Both KIM and FAROOKI were present at an event held this past Sunday (October 4th) at the Busan International Film Festival to announce their fellow jurors and reveal the nominations for the APSA UNESCO Award, which include ZHANG Miaoyan of China for A Corner of Heaven, Russia’s Ella Manzheeva for The Gulls, Turkey’s Senem TUZEN for Motherland, Hany ABU-ASSAD for The Idol of Palestine, and Australia’s Stephen Page for Spear.
Though the full list of APSA nominations will not be announced until October 21st, the awards have already announced contenders for the youth, animation and documentary categories. Among those are two Korean nominees,
KIM Tae-yong’s
Set Me Free, which debuted at BIFF last year, for the Youth Award and
The Road Called Life in the animation category.
The Asia Pacific Screen Awards will hold its ninth edition in Brisbane, Australia on Thursday, November 26th.
