3 Continents Festival to Feature 25 of Auteur’s Films
Later this year, the Festival of the Three Continents in Nantes will stage a comprehensive 25-title IM Kwon-taek retrospective during its 37th edition.
IM, a legend of Korean cinema who recently released his 102nd film Revivre, which bowed at the Venice Film Festival, will be the subject of a significant showcase which has so far only confirmed his 1987 title Adada, a still of which adorns the poster for this year’s edition. Adada is one of five IM films to have screened at Nantes in the past (it did so out of competition). The others include Village in the Mist (1982) and Daughters of the Flame (1983) during a special Korean cinema showcase in 1986 and competition berths for The Surrogate Womb (1986), which has screened three times at the festival in total, and Beyond the Years (2007).
Last year, HONG Sangsoo’s Hill of Freedompicked up the festival’s top prize, the Golden Montgolfier, while previous Korean award winners in Nantes include JANG Kun-jae’s Sleepless Night, which earned a Special Jury Mention in 2012.
This year’s edition of the 3 Continents Festival will take place from November 24th to December 1st.
