Though the festival will continue screening films until May 10th, the 15th Jeonju International Film Festival revealed its award winners last night. The Grand Prize winner in the International Competition, worth KRW 20 million (USD 19,526), was History of Fear by Argentine filmmaker Benjamin Naishtat, while the Korean Competition’s Grand Prize went to JANG Woo-jin’s A Fresh Start.

 

A Fresh Start triumphed over ten other local films vying for the KRW 10 million (USD 9,763) Grand Prize. The film, which examines the difficulties faced by youths in modern Korea, follows two young students who face an unexpected pregnancy. Meanwhile, CGV MovieCOLLAGE offered two awards, one for distribution support and the other for upcoming project support, both worth KRW 10 million, with the distribution award also including KRW 20 million for marketing costs. PARK Sa-yu and PARK Don-da’s Korean-Japanese documentary One for All, All for One was the recipient of the Distribution Support Award, while the Upcoming Project Support Prize was given to YOO Young-seon’s horror film The Wicked.

 

In the Korean Short Film Competition, the Grand Prize, which was sponsored by TV5MONDE, was won by KIM Yu-ri’s How Long Has That Door Been Open?. The Best Director Award and Special Jury Award, also sponsored by TV5MONDE, were won by JANG Jae-hyun’s 12th Assistant Deacon and NA Young-kil’s HOSANNA, respectively.
