INTRUDERS to Compete in Foreign Film Category
The Student Academy Awards, an offshoot of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences’ (AMPAS) Academy Awards, have selected a Korean short to compete in their upcoming 41st edition, which will take place on June 7th. The awards will feature 41 from 23 North American campuses, as well as ten finalists from universities all around the world. Representing the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) will be PARK Buem’s Intruders.
Intruders, the only East Asian film selected for this year’s Student Academy Awards, is the new work from acclaimed filmmaker PARK Buem, whose short The Night of the Witness (2012) debuted at the 17th Busan International Film Festival, where it won the Sonje Award for Best Short Film. The film went on the compete at the Seoul Independent Film Festival and the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 2013.
Intruders will compete alongside eight entries from European nations such as the Netherlands, Germany and Slovenia and one short from Israel for Gold, silver and bronze prizes, as well as a cash prize. Past winners at the Student Academy Awards have gone on to score 46 nominations at the Academy Awards.
