3 Features, 3 Shorts Invited to California
The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) will be celebrating its 30th anniversary next month and joining the festivities will be a six-strong contingent of Korean films, which will include three features and a trio of shorts.
Having its North American premiere will be the immigration drama Thuy, the debut indie that premiered at the Busan International Film Festival last October. KIM Jae-han’s film, which deals with a Vietnamese woman living in the Korean countryside whose husband dies, also screened in competition at the Dubai International Film Festival.
Gina KIM’s international co-production Final Recipe, a culinary feature produced by CJ Entertainment, will screen in Los Angeles, having already screened at the Hawaii International Film Festival and HIFF’s Spring Showcase. The film debuted at the San Sebastian International Film Festival last September and also served as the opening film for the culinary section of this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.
HUH Jung’s Hide and Seek, one of last year’s most successful thrillers in Korea with over five million admissions, will also have its North American premiere at LAAPFF. The film will subsequently be released on DVD and VOD in June, courtesy of RAM Releasing.
Finally, three shorts made by Korean-Americans, LEE Joo Hyun’s Sweet Corn, Michelle YU’s Taste in Guys and SHIN Yun-joo’s and Glenn Parham’s Love’s Orphan, were also invited to the festival. The 30th LAAPFF will run from May 1st to 11th.
