Will Feature Shorts of Tony Scott, Ang Lee, Alfonso Cuaron

The Asiana International Short Film Festival will return for its 11th edition from November 7th to 1th. This year’s promotional video, an ethereal and intimate in the open country, was directed by actress RYU Hyun-kyung (Two Weddings and a Funeral, Manshin: Ten Thousands Spirits).

After 3,959 submissions from 104 countries all around the world, 46 finalists from 29 countries will compete in the international competition. The Korean Competition will feature 12 shorts this year, with one animation among them. The lineup will feature LEE Hyung-suk’s Two Boys and a Sheep, which won a pair of awards at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival this year, and The Wish, the new short from HUH Jung, the director of the thriller Hide and Seek, one of the surprise hits of the summer.

There will also be a special screening of Ate Nine, the new film from KIM Jin-man, whose Noodle Fish was a big festival favorite last year. Many of this year’s competition films have screened abroad, including at the Hawaii, Montreal, Vancouver and Vladivostok International Film Festivals, as well as local festivals in Jeonju, Goyang, Busan, Jeju and Seoul among others.

Special programs this year include ‘Cinema Old & New,’ which will feature past works by World Cinema great Ang LEE, Alfonso Cuaron and the late Tony Scott, as well as the Cannes Film Festival Best Short Palme d’Or winner Safe, by MOON Byoung-gon. Another is a focus on new Korean directors, which will feature previous shorts by directors JO Sung-hee (A Werewolf Boy), YOON Sung-hyun (Bleak Night, 2011), YEON Sang-ho (The King of Pigs, 2011), ROH Deok (Very Ordinary Couple) and once again HUH Jung.

The 11th Asiana International Short Film Festival will take place in the Cinecube and Indiespace theaters in Seoul, starting from the 7th of this month and continue for five days.
