The mystery drama Sister Yujeong stands out as a film that questions the essence of family. It doesn't just vaguely talk about family with the notion of "it's good because we enjoy being together," but rather dissects the relationship of family with a delicate scalpel, attempting to look into the core of it. In the film, Yujeong and her younger sister Kijeong have a relationship similar to that of a mother and daughter. Because Yujeong's mother passed away when Kijeong was born, Yujeong gave Kijeong the love of a mother. However, as time passed, and Kijeong matured while Yujeong became busier, their relationship grew distant. Furthermore, when Kijeong confesses to abandoning her own baby, their relationship faces a critical test. Yujeong, who thought she knew Kijeong well, finds herself in a pit of self-blame. Yujeong's efforts to uncover the truth behind Kijeong’s baby abandonment case are, in fact, a process of getting to know who Kijeong really is and, for the first time, seriously reflecting on the meaning of their relationship. SISTER YUJEONG has a well-crafted plot structure, which is especially noticeable in the relationship Yujeong forms with a pregnant patient. (Jeonju International Film Festival)
