Director Jang Geon-jae's new film, Because I Hate Korea, is based on the novel of the same name by Jang Kang-myeong. Although the novel is set in the 2010s, the film remains relevant today, more than ten years later, as the realities and concerns of people in their 20s and 30s have not changed much. Centered around the character Gye-na, the film highlights the differences in lifestyles between Korea and abroad, while also shedding light on the lives of foreigners through the lens of New Zealand immigrants. It is impressive how the film naturally portrays the differences in values between Ji-myeong, who steadily adapts as a journalist, and Kye-na. This film was the opening work of the 28th Busan International Film Festival.
