Hye-in, a fifth-year editor specialising in Buddhist books, starts her day with a group bowing ceremony at the temple as soon as she arrives at work, but in reality, she often falls asleep while bowing and has no time to enjoy the scenery around the temple as she tries to complete her errands. The Flat I'll Lie Down is a comedy that takes full advantage of its protagonist's unique environment. The film explains the difficulties of choosing a lunch menu as an office worker, and the dizzying dissolves of the blue sky outside the courtroom and the blue screen of the computer that suddenly pops up with an error are hilarious. The film is based on Heisong's essay of the same name, and is cleverly written with fantastic characters as Dharma ambassadors to comfort the weary protagonist. The story is based on the author's actual experience of five years of trials and perseverance at a Buddhist book publishing company. The film has been invited to many film festivals, including the 25th Jeonju International Film Festival and the 49th Seoul Independent Film Festival, and has won awards at the 25th Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival and the 13th Chungmuro Short and Independent Film Festival.
Director Kim Eun-young said, "I want to empathise with, comfort, and console my fellow office workers in the daily routine of breaking, fixing, and repeating the same work in the same space, from going to work to leaving work, from joining to leaving work, just like the drinks we exchange after work."
