Cultivating the Future of Independent Cinema Distribution
Indieground Launches 7th Distribution Academy

Indieground, established by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Chairman Han Sang-joon) to strengthen the distribution infrastructure for Korea's independent and art-house cinema, is now accepting applications for the 7th cohort of its Distribution Academy from March 3rd (Tuesday) through March 18th (Wednesday).
Launched in 2021, the Distribution Academy is an annual educational program designed to nurture specialized professionals in the independent and art-house film sector. Last year's 6th cohort drew 228 applicants, demonstrating strong industry interest. Fifteen participants were ultimately selected and completed the program. To date, a total of 89 graduates have joined the film industry workforce, contributing their expertise across distribution companies, PR and marketing agencies, film festivals, and various other sectors. The program's steadily increasing employment rate continues to validate its effectiveness.
The 7th cohort will feature an enhanced curriculum with a stronger emphasis on hands-on, industry-connected training. The curriculum encompasses comprehensive theoretical instruction covering distribution, PR and marketing, ancillary markets, independent cinema and social change, and community cinema, alongside in-depth case studies analyzing real distribution campaigns.
A cornerstone of this year's program is a practical workshop where participants develop complete distribution and marketing plans for an upcoming independent film release. Students will present their plans to industry professionals and receive detailed feedback, gaining invaluable real-world experience. Additionally, post-graduation support includes voluntary graduate-led initiatives and on-site training opportunities to help alumni continuously expand their professional capabilities.
The program welcomes job seekers pursuing careers in independent cinema, early-career professionals with less than one year of experience seeking to strengthen their competencies, and activists or producers aiming to drive social change through independent film. The cohort is limited to 15 participants maximum, offered completely tuition-free. Students who complete at least 80% of the curriculum will receive an official certificate from KOFIC.
Applications are open from March 3rd (Tuesday) through March 18th (Wednesday) via the "Support Programs" section of the Indieground website (www.indieground.kr).
