Overall Audience Increased While Korean Film Viewers Decreased Compared to Last Year
Korean Film Council (KOFIC) has announced the October monthly report on Korean film industry. According to this report, the overall number of viewers in October was 14.93 million, total ticket sales being USD 101 million. Compared to the same period last year, the number of audience and total sales increased by 2.34 million and USD 18.5 million respectively.
However, the audience for Korean films has decreased. The number of viewers and total ticket sales in October this year were 6.4 million and USD 42.2 million, that are 0.33 million and USD 2 million less than 6.73 million and USD 44.2 million in October last year. Therefore the domestic film share also has decreased to 42.9% from last year’s 53.8%.
According to the accumulated stats from January through October 2015,
Veteran is at the first place (13.39 million admissions).
Assassination (12.7 million),
The Avengers: Age of Ultron (10.49 million),
Ode to My Father (8.91 million) and
The Throne (6.24 million) were the top five pictures.
In the diversity section,
Mune reached the top in October with 130,000 viewers.
Danny Collins is at the second place with 46,000 and
Right Now, Wrong Then is at the third with 40,000 admissions.
The best performing distributor is
20th Century Fox Korea of
Kingsman: The Secret Service and
The Martian with 31.8% of share,
Warner Bros. Korea ranked at the second place with
Mad Max: Fury Road and
Intern.
CJ E&M of
Veteran and
THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE reached the third place while
Showbox Inc. of
Assassination and
The Throne arrived at the 4th place.
