After much difficulty, one confectionary company decided to sponsor the team, and the Haitai Tigers was born. Though the team only began with 14 players, it demonstrated an amazing potential with a 100 percent winning rate and nine victories in the Korean Series, giving rise to the legendary “Haitai Dynasty.” The team that had to play away games on May 18 of every year, and therefore remembered ever so fondly by the people of Gwangju. Dynasty is a record of the Haitai Tigers, a team that disappeared during the Asian Financial Crisis with a final victory in 1997, the year President Kim Daejung who was born in the Honam region was elected.
