Chang-sik, a retired civil servant, lives with his wife, Gil-soon, who was struck by a cerebral haemorrhage a few years ago, and her caretaker, Soo-ok, a Korean Chinese woman and illegal immigrant. One day, a bedsore develops on Gil-soon’s body, which does not seem to heal properly. Even through Gil-soon is in poor shape, Soo-ok insists on taking time off on weekends and goes out. Chang-sik realizes Soo-ok has found a romantic interest. Some time later, Soo-ok decides to quit her job in order to enter a sham marriage so that she can get a new visa. Upon hearing this, Chang-sik suggests they get married. Chang-sik’s daughter Ji-soo, son Moon-soo and his wife Ji-young all raise objections. At the family meeting, they fail to reach an agreement and only end up drudging up old wounds.
