Barunson E&A is the entertainment division of stationary and restaurant conglomerate Barunson. Barunson entered the film production business in 2005 upon acquiring film investment company I Pictures and merging it into a new branch, Barunson Film. After its first production <Hansel and Gretel> in 2007, Barunson made the headlines when it signed production deals with internationally acclaimed directors BONG Joon-ho and KIM Jee-woon for two films each. As part of the agreement, Barunson produced KIM’s hit western <The Good, The Bad, and the Weird> (2008) and BONG’s critically acclaimed <Mother> (2009). It then acquired and merged with Sio Film in 2009. In 2015, the conglomerate decided to reunite all its entertainment businesses into a single entity, Barunson Entertainment & Arts. As such, this branch is involved not only in film production but also in game development for PC, mobile and VR headsets and intends to develop synergies between both media formats. Barunson has opened two VR-themed parks in Seoul since 2016 and partnered with the Busan International Film Festival in 2017 to create a new section dedicated to VR films, including a dedicated theater, exhibitions and conferences.
